“Wealth is not about the collection of things. True wealth is having the freedom to be the best version of yourself.”

Luke Hail knows it’s a privilege to be included in some of the most important decisions and profound moments in someone’s life.  For this reason, he doesn’t take his role as a Financial Planner at Foster & Motley lightly. He realizes that the best planners are not ever selling a service, but are providing trusted advice.

After finishing his bachelor’s and MBA degrees at the University of Kentucky he was recruited by a financial planning firm in his hometown of Somerset, Kentucky. It was there that he realized that helping people make important financial decisions was going to be the focus of his life’s work.  During this time, he focused on developing his planning skills and with an emphasis in insurance and investments.  It was here that he realized fiduciaries who didn’t have conflicts arising from investment or insurance product sales were in the best position to offer financial advice.

He sought out and joined a fee-only, fiduciary planning firm in Lexington, Kentucky.  There he could provide clients with thoughtful advice and investment management services in an environment that always put his clients’ interests first.  During his time there the firm grew from $5 million under management to approximately $80 million. He served on the firm’s investment selection committee and worked extensively in the development of financial plans and the management of investment portfolios.  In 2001, he earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation and was named vice president and shareholder of the corporation.

As Luke’s family grew, they began considering relocating closer to his wife Missy’s family in Northern Kentucky. In 2002, Luke called Dave Foster and asked if he could take him to lunch to gain his insights on the best financial planning firms in Cincinnati. Luke learned that Foster & Motley shared his passion of providing excellent financial advice and happened to be looking for a planner.  Luke joined the firm that same year and still loves the culture of Foster & Motley and gets to serve clients the way he would like to be served.  He became a shareholder of the firm in 2006 and in 2023 was appointed as Chairman of the Board.

Luke and his wife Missy live in Park Hills, Kentucky with their four children, Ben, Kate, Jenna, and Jacie. Outside work you can find Luke and Missy on the sidelines of gymnastics meets, using some Eagle Scout skills camping at their farm, or boating on Lake Cumberland.  He is currently the treasurer and a board member of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati and is an active member of St. Agnes Church. Luke has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, MSN, and the Lexington Herold. Additionally, he has appeared on "Cincinnati Edition" on WVXU radio.

Luke knows that it is a multitude of small decisions and moments that make for both a client and family’s success, and he is privileged to be part of it all.
