Let’s get down to brass tacks; Karen does not find taxes, well, taxing. She came to Foster & Motley with a background in taxes as a CPA and quite enjoys the world of tax. A graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, she went to work after graduation at Grant Thornton in their tax group. While there, she acquired her CPA license and specialized in working with middle-market business owners on corporate and personal income tax returns. Unsatisfied with those credentials alone, she decided to go to law school. Karen graduated magna cum laude from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law with an emphasis in tax and estate planning.
After obtaining her law degree, Karen went to work for a large local law firm in their tax and estate planning group. During her time at the firm, she collaborated with several attorneys to work with high-net-worth individuals to help manage their tax and estate planning endeavors. While working with these clients, she gained experience in trust income taxes, gift taxes, and estate taxes.
Karen joined the Foster & Motley team in 2021 and said the thing that drew her in was the firm’s culture and team environment, along with the priority of putting the client first. As such, she is excited to use her expertise to help clients minimize their taxes and most importantly, plan for their future.
Perhaps the most important fact about Karen O’Sullivan is that she bleeds blue; she is a member of the Big Blue Nation and a huge fan of Kentucky basketball. As any devoted fan, she makes frequent trips to Rupp Arena to cheer on her beloved Wildcats. Karen and her husband, Jack currently reside in Union, KY, and love to travel. They are currently working on visiting all 50 states and venturing out into international waters.
